The WVU Health Sciences Center Charleston Division School of Medicine follows a traditional model of medical education, which involves learning from practicing physicians in specialized learning blocks. In the 3rd year, medical students will experience six 8 week blocks in the following disciplines: Family Medicine, Medicine, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Psychiatry / Neurology, and Surgery. WVU’s Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Charleston Division, in affiliation with CAMC and the CAMC Institute operate a patient simulation center at CAMC’s General Hospital. This 7,000 square foot teaching lab maintains a full-time staff and features both SimMan and SimBaby simulators capable of a variety of crisis or assessment scenarios. Medical Students work side-by-side with doctors and scientists in Charleston area modern hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. They also have a chance to learn from professionals in practice at medical offices, clinics and hospitals across the region.
